Flat Roof Repair

Discovering the source of a leak in a flat roof is usually easier than finding one on a sloped roof or a shingled roof. That said, roof leaks of any kind can be more complicated than they initially seem – especially if you’re an amateur trying to DIY roof repairs.
There are many reasons for this, starting with the fact that the spot where you initially notice water entering your interior rooms might not be where the leak itself is, since water that penetrates the membrane of your roof can travel across the shelter until it reaches a seam in the sheathing/roof deck, skylight or electrical, HVAC or plumbing penetration and then manages to drip or seep through to the inside.

Roof Replacement

A built-up flat roof is made up of tar and gravel. For many people, the built-up roof is what comes to mind when they think of flat roofs. Built-up roofs have been popular for a long time because they’re also efficient insulators in addition to being attractive. Built-up flat roofs are very sturdy because they have so many layers. However, those layers make the top very heavy. If your home already has a built-up roof, replacing it with another built-up roof is a good idea. However, if you have a different flat roof type, talk with a licensed roof contractor because you may need additional roof support. Another disadvantage is that the home must be empty when the roof is installed because of the dangers involved in the installation. Depending on your timeline, this could be a significant detractor.
